Margot Dougherty is a journalist who has held writing and editing positions at Time Inc. (LIFE, People, Entertainment Weekly, Who Weekly) in New York, Los Angeles, and Sydney. A longtime editor at Los Angeles magazine, where she wrote celebrity profiles and lifestyle stories, and produced the food coverage for many years, she continues to freelance (More, Dwell, Smithsonian, and Los Angeles magazines, among others). She coaches writers in narrative nonfiction, especially memoirs and how-to books, and serves as an editor and ghostwriter from the proposal stage through to the completed manuscript. Mariel Hemingway thanked her in a forward to her 2013 book, Running With Nature.

A former editor at One Kings Lane, the online home decor company, Margot also writes and consults on website content, helping clients find the right voice and prompting visitors to actively and beneficially engage in the site.

Adept at getting inside the heads of animals, if there’s a dog, cat, or any other creature aching to tell their story, she’s game. Margot has practiced yoga for more than 20 years.
